Scutching turbine for flax :

zwingelturbine

Fibre flax yarn (linen) is made from the bast of the flax plant. A first processing step in the transformation of flax into textile is the cleaning of the fibres, the so-called scutching. The goal is to remove the wooden core particles (shives) and the short straw fibres (tow) from the long and pure fibres (with a length of up to ± 1m). Also the seed and other impureties like rocks or metal are removed. At the end of the line the flax fibers are ready to be combed (heckled) and processed further into yarn and eventually into textile.

Van Dommele builds complete flax scutching turbines for fibre flax including equipment to clean the by-products (core, tow and seed).
